This Could Have Been Me . . .

Here's a short article from today's Washington Times. I wonder if these people are military . . .

MARYLAND POTOMAC Couple delivers son on Beltway's shoulder

A baby who could not wait to reach the hospital was born on the Capital Beltway early yesterday, state police said. A Montgomery County fire department spokesman said the agency received a call about 1:45 a.m. saying someone was having a baby on the shoulder of the Beltway at River Road. By the time police arrived, the baby boy had been born. The trooper gave the mother a bottle of water and a blanket to keep the newborn warm. An ambulance arrived to treat and stabilize mother and baby who were both in good condition, police said. They were taken to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda. The parents are from Alexandria.

I would assume so since they were taken to Bethesda. Right?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure. As my friend Michele pointed out in an email, they lived closer to Ft. Belvoir, yet decided the Beltway and Bethesda was a better bet than Dewitt hospital! Good to know others share my low opinion of that facility.

She is a friend of a friend and I believe an Air Force Academy grad. I think she lives in the Fairfax area. I will confirm details with the Browns tom.

So are you sending a clipping of this article to Colonel Man and his cronies? I sure would. Along with a sweet little note about how encouraged you are to see how well they're able to "manage" these things from a distance, and perhaps a request that they check to see just how many of these situations are falling "through the cracks".

Ugh.
